Francophone Fortnight begins today

The member countries of La Francophonie in Ghana (Belgium, Benin, Burkina-Faso, Canada, Egypt, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Switzerland, Togo) organise each year the Quinzaine de la Francophonie (Francophone Fortnight).
Its ninth edition will take place from March 14 to 25, 2005 and will be marked by a wide range of cultural events.
Artistes programmed include King Mensah, the king of Togolese Afro pop music, Orentchy, a great Ivorian musician and BAM, Canadian drummers. A film festival will present movies coming from diverse parts of the World (Burkina-Faso, Canada, Ivory Coast, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Switzerland, Vietnam …)
"Recup'Art/Recycling Art", a visual arts workshop will visit Ghanaian and Francophone artists to work and create on the theme of recycling.
An exhibition will follow the workshop. Students of the University of Legon Drama Department will perform an adaptation in French of Le Tartuffe by Molière. Giant puppets, Les Grandes Personnes, handled by French and Burkinabe artists will go out in the street for a theatre show.
There will be a conference that will focus on cultural diversity and the role of Francophonie. There will also be a gourmet night to discover and sample specialities from a dozen countries.
The children will not be left out of the fun, as a children's show will be organised at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Whether or not you are good at sports, the Francophone Run will be open to all. JSS, SSS and students from tertiary institutions of French will compete during the Great National Francophonie Contest.
The 2005 Francophone fortnight, will seek to bring once more to the doorsteps of the Ghanaian citizens the rich French /Francophone culture through the use of arts.
The entrance and participation fee to all the events will be free of charge and each and every one is cordially invited to come and celebrate La Francophonie.
