Mr Sumaila Boachie, chairman of the Kumasi-Takoradi-Elubo branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has called on the security agencies to mount intensive patrols on the highways especially at night to save passengers and drivers from being attacked and robbed of their property by criminals.
He said robbers on the Anhwiankwanta-Fomena road attacked one of the branch vehicles and passengers last Monday night and robbed passengers of their monies.
Mr Boachie, who spoke to the GNA in an interview, commended the security agencies for their efforts in tracking down criminals in the society in recent times and urged them not to rest on their oars.
He appealed to the drivers to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and told passengers to be bold to report drivers who violate road regulations especially driving under the influence of alcohol and over-speeding.
