As part of their endeavours to deliver excellent healthcare in their communities, the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District (SKCD) Assembly of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has commenced with preparations to formally inaugurate the scheme's benefits in April.
The district, in the Eastern Region, is made up of 475 communities and has currently registered about 12,000 inhabitants to begin with, in the scheme's operations.
Commenting on the inauguration issue at a board meeting in the district, Mr Pratt, a member of the National Health Council, called on Ghanaians to eschew wrong notions on the scheme's implementation.
He was of the view that the commencement of the scheme's operation will attract numerous unregistered inhabitants to partake in the exercise.
Mr Pratt appealed to the scheme's management team to ensure registrants are fully acquainted with the steps to undertake as they attend the various hospitals for treatment. He said such practice would halt all forms of crisis and misunderstandings that may emanate while they attend the hospitals.
Mr Pratt however described the government's implementation of the scheme as a solid way of poverty reduction from the country and assured the management team of the council's support in strengthening the scheme's operations.
The DCE of the (SKCD) assembly, Mr Kofi Mensah extolled the assembly as well as the scheme's management team for their immense contributions in educating the communities on the scheme's positive packages.
The manager of the district health insurance scheme, Mr Kafui Tulasi, called on stakeholders to contribute in sustaining as well as establishing the scheme's benefits.
He appealed to the district assembly to financially support the scheme's activities especially at its current early stage until the government intervenes.
Transportation, he said, is a major challenge they are faced with and therefore called on the assembly for assistance. Mr Tulasi however called on SSNIT contributors to partake in the registration process in their various districts for good, quality and easily accessible healthcare.
Mr Ebenezer Debrah, the claims manager of the team, anticipated that about 60,000 new members would be recorded as registrants in the district by next year.
