CAN RAWLINGS AND KUFUOR "JAW-JAW"?

| Posted: Wednesday, March 30, 2005

Religious leaders and the Bar Association are being asked to mediate between what the public now perceive as the bad blood between President Kufuor and former President Rawlings.

Such is the depth of concern that the public places more emphasis on the festering relationship between the two elder statesmen than the effects of the present price increases.

The public is asking President Kufuor to invite President Rawlings over for dinner in order to build bridges.

In other words, President Kufuor is being asked to ignore what he sees as the disrespect accorded him by President Rawlings and ask President Rawlings to "jaw-jaw" with him over dinner.

Is the public at the same time telling President Kufuor that he should overcome his concern that President Rawlings might reject his dinner offer and leave the public to be the judge of the consequence?

The voice of the people is said to be the voice of God and President Kufuor may be listening. But here, what the public should also be asking is whether President Rawlings can bring himself to call and/or address Mr. Kufuor as "My President" either in private or public?

Can the public equally demand of President Rawlings to purge himself of all ill-feelings and come to accept, recognise and respect Mr. Kufuor as "his President"?

Can President Rawlings thumb his chest on a public platform that "Kufuor is my President and I ask you all to accept Kufuor as your President as I sincerely do accept, recognise and respect him as President of the Republic"?

After all, one hand cannot clap by itself!
