Delegates at the second quadrennial conference of the Atwima- Nwabiagya district branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), have urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to collaborate with the Association to draw up a comprehensive housing scheme for teachers.
They also urged the GES to introduce bursary and scholarship schemes for children of teachers from the basic to tertiary level as incentive for dedicated service.
These suggestions were contained in a resolution adopted at a day's conference at Nkawie, on the theme: The Need for Efficient Teacher to Enhance Quality Education.
The 50 delegates selected from Mponua, Abuakwa, Amanano and Nwabiagya GNAT local branches also asked the GES to put in place a mechanism to facilitate the upgrading of all trained teachers through the distance education programme at no cost.
The resolution also requested GNAT to provide means of transport to the district secretariats as exists at the regional level.
New district council members were elected for the next four years with Mr F.C.K. Ntim-Gyakari of the district education office maintaining his position as the chairman and Mr Kwaku Addai of Osei Tutu Secondary School as his vice.
