Kufuor bids Pope John Paul II farewell

| Posted: Monday, April 11, 2005

President J. A. Kufuor arrived at the Rome airport last Thursday afternoon to participate in the funeral ceremony of the late Pope John Paul II.

He was accompanied by his wife Mrs Theresa Kufuor, Senior Minister J. H. Mensah, Ambassador D. K. Osei, President's Press Secretary Mr Kwabena Agyapong and Rev. Father Adu Kwaning, the parish priest of Christ the King Church, Accra.

Shortly after arrival in Rome President Kufuor and his delegation went to the St Peter's Basilica where the Pope's body was lying in state and paid their respect.

Last Friday, President Kufuor and his delegation as well as Ghana's Ambassador to Italy Dr Dsaney-Selby, joined several other hundreds of Heads of States and Governments and dignitaries from all over the world at the St Peter's Square, in a very solemn ceremony to celebrate the burial mass of the pontiff, whose body was placed in a very simple wooden coffin.
