Minister of Information Mr Dan Botwe has reiterated that he would personally be committed to ensuring that the Ghana News Agency (GNA) is adequately resourced for optimal performance.
He said: "I am very much aware of the operational problems of the Agency. It is totally unacceptable and certainly cannot be allowed to continue. We are determined to improve the situation".
Mr Botwe who was speaking when he paid a visit to the Kumasi office of the GNA as part of his official tour of departments and organisations under the Ministry in the Ashanti Region, said he meant every promise made and that "this is no political talk".
He had earlier visited the regional offices of some media organisations including the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, New Times Corporation, Graphic Communications Group Limited and Abura Printing Press, publishers of the Pioneer.
Mr Botwe praised the GNA workers for working assiduously in the face of difficulties and encouraged them to remain undeterred.
He said it was only when the government provided the necessary equipment that it could demand high performance from the Agency.
Mr Dan Botwe will launch the Twi version of the President's State of the Nation's address as part of the Ashanti Region and Kumasi Metropolitan People's Forum at the Prempeh College Assembly Hall.
Acting Regional Manager of the GNA Mrs Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu said, "we have followed closely and keenly the enthusiasm you have shown in the GNA and would want to believe that your promises are going to be honoured".
