Officer cadets participate in steeple chase competition

Officer Cadet Mohamady Belem of Abyssinia Platoon braved all odds to win this year's Inter-Platoon Junior Cadet Steeplechase competition with a time of 34 minutes, 28 seconds held at the Ghana Military Academy, Teshie.
The participants were drawn from the Standard Military Course (SMC) 46 and Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course (SSC/SD) 44.
The event was aimed at inculcation into the officer cadets esprit-de-corps as we well as building their physical fitness and mental resilience in order to endure trying conditions.
In all 69 officer cadets including four females took part in the competition The steeplechase course was laid on a circuit of 12km run through difficult terrain, at the end of which competitors cleared a chain of obstacles comprising 2ft and 4ft bars, ascending and descending ramps, vertical and horizontal rope climbing, tunnel crossing and ending with heave ups.
The impressive performance displayed by the cadets mirrored the hard work, dedication to duty and sacrifices that saw the cadets through difficult moments.
As part of activities marking the 2005 junior cadet steeplechase competition senior cadets of Regular Career Course 45 put up a demonstration of an air assault on a supposedly enemy outpost by rappelling from the helicopter into the enemy area.
Chief Staff Officer of the Air Force Headquarters Air Commodore J.Okyere Boateng, who was the guest of honour, commended the cadets for the impressive performance displayed.
He encouraged them to strive hard at the level of stamina they have worked hard to attain.
