A 26-year-old food vendor who used to sell cooked food without a covering medical certificate has been fined 350,000 cedis by a district court at Elmina.
Maame Efua, who pleaded guilty with explanation, would go to jail for seven weeks in default.
Prosecuting, Mr James Makame, the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem district environmental officer, told the court that in January, Maame Efua failed on three occasions to produce a medical certificate authorising her to sell food.
In her explanation, Maame Efua claimed she had a certificate but the court rejected the explanation on grounds that she should have shown it to the officials.
It directed that ¢300,000 of the fine, when paid, should be put into the coffers of the assembly.
