The Reverend Joseph P. Anaman, a Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service, on Tuesday said children were valuable assets of any nation and therefore called for special attention to their training.
He said many parents underestimated the potentials of their children, neglected them and were sometimes not ready to sacrifice for them. Rev. Anaman was speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Kweikuma Metropolitan Authority Primary School at Kweikuma near Sekondi.
He said education would enhance the potential of children to enable them to contribute meaningfully towards societal growth and empower them to fight for their rights and defend the nation.
Rev. Anaman, therefore, called on parents, teachers, School Management Committees (SMC) and the community to assist the school to improve its infrastructure.
Mr Paul B. Yalley, Headteacher of the school, said the school, which was established in October 1963, needed urgent rehabilitation of its infrastructure.
He said during rainy seasons, most of the roofs of the single story school complex leak and flood the classrooms.
Mr Yalley said lack of drainage systems in the area had contributed to the current state of the infrastructure at the school and appealed to the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly to assist in addressing the problem.
He said notwithstanding these problems, the school had won several awards, prizes and certificates over the years. Book prizes were presented to some students, who excelled in Mathematics, English, and Athletics.
