Nai Ayikai-Armah II, chief of Awutu-Kukubeng in the Central Region has advised rural youth to take to farming instead of migrating to big cities in search of non-existent jobs.
He said farming was one of the most lucrative economic ventures which had helped millions of individuals and nations to make decent and meaningful living.
"It is therefore wrong for the youth to classify agriculture as unprofitable and the job for the drop-outs in society".
Addressing farmers at Kukubeng, Nai Ayikai-Armah reminded the youth of the serious consequences the nation would face if they refused to embrace agriculture during their youthful years to enable them to take over from their ageing parents.
He said a time would come when Ghana would be compelled to import staple food crops like cassava, plantain and cocoyams from neighbouring countries if the youth persistently failed to involve themselves in farming.
Nai Ayikai-Armah urged the government to initiate measures to encourage the younger generation to cultivate the habit of farming from their formative years to prevent any future problem towards the promotion of agriculture in the country.
