The Acting British High Commissioner, Mr Robin Gwynn has said that Ghana is one of the most forward-looking countries in Africa. He commended efforts by the Government of Ghana to reduce poverty and create wealth to better the lot of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He made his observations when a group of Raleigh International Venturers called on him as part of their three-week visit to Ghana. He briefed the group about the role of the British High Commission in Ghana and said the British government every year gives the Ghana government grant of about £ 65 million pounds for development assistance, and "all of this is untied to the use of British goods and services", he added.
The group is made up of 18 students and staff from Coquet High School in the United Kingdom and two Ghanaian Youths. While in Ghana, the group will visit a number of communities to undertake community and environmental development projects.
The expedition will take them to Samanhyia Battor in the Afram Plains where in collaboration with the Afram Plains Development Organisation, would build toilets for households in the community. They will also interact with some school children. The group will then move to Mole National Park to continue an environmental project started by previous Raleigh groups. They will later visit some historical and educational sites in the Central region.
Raleigh International is a UK voluntary organisation working on community development projects in various parts of the country for the past six years through cultural exchange programmes and expeditions.
