A. R. Harruna writes on...
Letter to Kwami

| Posted: Monday, September 05, 2005

Have you seen the television pictures of how Hurricane Katrina has leveled the South-Eastern parts of the US?

My sympathies go to them. Natural disasters have no regard for superpower stardom, it would seem.

But as a superpower, the US can afford - no, that's not what mean - the US would cope better than the rest of us in such emergencies. The resources and the cash are there so I can well imagine money pouring into the devastated areas that would put to shame Ghana's entire development expenditure since Independence! Have you come across the name van Landwijk?

ADM has done many stories on him. His it seems is the lone voice crying out with the question of how ready we are to cope with a natural emergency/disaster. He has done articles pointing out the likelihood of an earthquake in our national capital and challenged the authorities to institute a programme of combat readiness. But it does not quite seem to me that anybody is listening.

We rather like to salivate on "exposing" (im)morality than taking the creative steps that would ensure our survival… I keep praying. I hope you do too. Cheers and greetings from NYA.
