The Management of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited has handed over a new multi-million cedis school block at the Ntotroso resettlement site to the community.
The school was built to replace the Kwakyekrom Local Authority Primary school. The two billion cedis block has eight classrooms, two offices, a staff common room, a sports field, two KVIP's one for the teachers and the other for the pupils.
Mr. Dave Ingle, General Manager, said the school was one of the company's investments in its social responsibility to the community.
He said the Ahafo gold project was 60 per cent complete and would be inaugurated in the middle of next year.
Mr. Randy Barnes, External Affairs Manager of Newmont, said the school was to create value in the community through partnership with all stakeholders.
He said the company would soon establish a Community Scholarship Programme to assist needy children in the community.
Mr. Opoku Peprah, Asutifi District Chief Executive, said the government is committed to ensure equity in educational opportunities throughout the country for children of school going age.
Mr. Peprah said under the 2005 supplementary budget, about 1.6 billion cedis had been earmarked for the educational sector in the district.
