The Assin District Director of Health services, Dr Nii Adjei Adjetey, has cautioned collectors of premium for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to educate the public about the various premiums proposed under the scheme and leave the choice, regarding how much one should pay for the client to make.

Dr Adjetey was speaking at a stakeholders meeting at Assin-Nduaso in the Assin North District to discuss the modalities of the NEPAD pilot feeding programme for schools.

Assin-Nduaso is the beneficiary community in the Central Region for the pilot programme, under which pupils in 10 basic schools, one in each region, are to be provided with one meal a day and regularly de-wormed.

Dr Adjetey appealed to residents in the area to register with the NHIS to improve their access to health care delivery.

Mr Kwame Owusu Nuako, Special Assistant to the Minister for Regional Co-operation and NEPAD, had earlier briefed the community on the modalities of the feeding programme.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Kwabena Karikari-Apau, said the feeding programme is part of measures being taken by the government to enhance school enrolment, particularly in deprived communities.

He tasked the people to reciprocate the government's gesture by enrolling their children in school.

The chief of the Assin-Nduaso, Nana Foh Asante II, pledged to mobilize his people to construct a dining hall for the school.
