Youth cautioned against unprotected sex

The Ahafo-Ano North Focal Person on HIV/AIDS, Mr Ben Owusu-Afriyie, has warned of the spread of the disease in the district, if the youth did not avoid unprotected sex.
He said the attitude of the youth towards sex should be a source of grave concern to all, since it was a recipe for contracting and spread of the disease.
Mr Owusu-Afriyie gave this warning at a one-day sensitization workshop on HIV/AIDS for 40 security personnel drawn from the Police, Fire and Immigration services at Tepa at the weekend.
He said even though statistics compiled by the District Health Directorate indicated a downward trend in the incidence of the disease, efforts should be made to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the district.
Mr Owusu-Afriyie, therefore, urged the participants to impress upon their colleagues the need to abstain from casual sex and remain faithful to their partners, adding that, where they could not resist having sex, they should then protect themselves.
Mr Paul Mensah, the District Information Officer, stressed government's commitment to improve the health status of Ghanaians and that was why the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was introduced.
