Metro mass transit limited launch new buses

The Metro Mass Transit Company Limited (MMTCL) have lunched twenty one new DAF/VDL buses which are to be used for the new pilot rout (Adenta-Kinbu) offering regular and scheduled bus services throughout the day.
The MMTCL was set up on a pilot basis in October 2002 in Accra /Tema and after the successful implementation of the pilot project, the MMTCL was incorporated in March 2003 with the government and four financial institutions as shareholders to provide mass transit throughout the country.
The new buses are part of the hundred buses assembled at the Neoplan bus manufacturing plant in Kumasi for the MMTCL under the concessionary financing package from the government and people of Royal Netherlands.
The occasion was marked by a display and inspection of the buses by the guests and a float to Adenta. Among the guests were the Deputy Minister for Roads and Transport, Magnus Opare Asamoah and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I .C Quaye.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Transport said: "The growth and development of any economy is to a large extent dependent on the effective movement of people, goods and service." He further stated that the benefits that have accrued since the interception of the project have been enormous.
Sheikh I .C Quaye said the government introduced these services to enable workers to go to work and get back home with ease and comfort. He advised the MMTCL to maintain the buses well.
