Kumasi Asante Kotoko maintained their hold of the GT premier league with a lone goal victory over Feyenoord at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Douglas Nkrumah scored the only goal of the game in the first half to secure Kotoko victory and increase their point build up to 51 with four matches to go.
When Referee W.L. Quaye of Accra, whistled the two teams into action, it was Kotoko who showed glimpse of carrying the day and nearly took the lead in the 12th minute, but Kobina Dodzie's shot was parried to corner and the resultant kick wasted.
The Porcupine Warriors, however, continued to pile on pressure, and this paid off when Douglas Nkrumah headed home the match winner in the 24th minutes.
Feyenoord accepted the challenge and moved into Kotoko's vital area and had a free kick just outside the "box" in the 20th minute, but the kick by Abubakar Mahadi hit the belly of Dodzie who was stretched off for treatment.
The Gomoa boys continued to dominate the game with accurate passes and speed but were unfortunate to have found the net. Having seized the midfield and the attack, Feyenoord nearly came to level terms; but a shot from Yekini sailed over the bar in the 36th minute.
The second half started with a downpour, but it did not affect the trend of play; as Feyenoord still dominated the play. Kotoko brought on Yusif Chibsah for Nkrumah in 65th minute and announced his presence with a shot, which should have been the second goal, but goalkeeper McCarthy saved the situation.
As hard as Fayenoord tried, they could not get an equalizer. At Kpando, Kotoko's archrivals, Accra Hearts of Oak beat Heart of Lions 3-0.
The phobians scored the opener through captain, Amankwa Mireku before striker; Prince Tagoe struck a double to seal victory.
Hearts now have 50 points and are still at a point adrift the leaders, Asante Kotoko. At the Dansoman Carl Reindorff Park, Liberty Professionals dented the title aspirations of King Faisal with a 3-1 win to send them to the seventh position on the log.
David Boateng, Eric Boakye and Walid Mohammed got all three for Liberty with Sumaila Yahaya scoring Faisal's only goal. Real Sportive has upstaged Berekum Arsenals from the fourth position after beating Arsenals 1-0 at the Tema Park.
In Sunyani, Bofoakwa Tano beat Kade Hotspurs by a lone goal, hence Hotspurs droping to the bottom of the standings. Sekondi Hasaacas were crushed 3-0 at Nkawkaw by Okwawu United.
At the Berekum Golden City Park, Ashanti Gold ended their one-game home ban with a goalless draw game with Real Tamale United. Ebusua Dwarfs moved from the bottom of the table after beating Power FC 2-1 at the Koforidua Park.
