GES present bicycles and wheel chairs to pupils

The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has presented 16 bicycles and four wheel chairs to 20 school children in the district.
The items, which were donated by the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), were given to four physically challenged and 16 children who walked long distance to school.
In an address read for her, Mrs Helena Arkoh, the District Director of Education, expressed concern about lack of retention of girls in schools in the district and urged parents to help reverse the situation.
She appealed to parents and guardians to take advantage of the capitation grant to enroll their children in school.
Mr Kwesi Esserku, the Presiding Member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, repeated the NPP government's in interest in the education of children and said ''education is the key to development.''
Mr Esserku appealed to the people in the district to register with the Health Insurance Scheme.
Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Directorate of the GES also organised a day's capacity building seminar for 100 proprietors and heads of private schools in the district.
