Madam Gifty Ama Asantewa Ayeh, popularly known as Daavi Ama, has asked the delegates to the forthcoming national congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for her if they want the party to win the 2008 and other future elections.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ADM yesterday, Madam Gifty Ayeh, who is contesting the position of treasurer, said the NPP is sinking financially, and therefore it is in need of a "workaholic" capable of raising money to keep the party on going.
"For the past five years the NPP has been organizing fund raising only on the eve of elections, and I think this is not good for a political party that is hungry for power", she said.
"We must make sure that we always have a sound financial base by generating funds every now and then", she added.
Asked about some of the areas that the party can generate funds from, Madam Gifty Ayeh said: "We can generate funds from other areas such as farming and fishing which are the main occupation of most Ghanaians."
Madam Gifty Ayeh noted that as a staunch member of the party, she is the most suitable person for the position of the treasurer.
"I am honest, trustworthy and above all capable of raising funds, where most people have failed...I am someone who knows where and how to raise funds, and I believe I have all those qualities", she remarked confidently.
She noted that she would not only be raising funds for the party if elected, but would also make sure that she teams up with the other members of the executive in establishing a united front for the NPP.
"You can never achieve victory when you are divided. I will make sure that I use my motherly love to work for unity among the executive."
Daavi Ama is a very popular politician, especially with the Ghanaian media and has contributed articles to a lot of them. She has served on the National Media Commission.
Her ebullient personality would certainly be an asset in fund-raising.
