NADMO warns of possible danger in parts of Ashaiman

GNA | Posted: Wednesday, November 02, 2005

Mr Abraham Reynolds, the Tema Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has called on traditional rulers to collaborate with the municipal/district assemblies before allocating lands to developers in order to avert disaster.

He said disregard for technical directions from the Engineers Department of the assemblies normally plunge people into disasters as a result of flood.

Mr Reynolds was speaking at the inspection of flood prone areas at Zenu and Ashaiman where people have built on waterways. He warned of a possible danger in the next two years.

He said in the near future houses in those areas could be flooded and urged them to relocate in their own interest.

The inspection revealed that about 16 new structures had been sited on watercourses or close to them. Farmlands in the area have also been developed into residential areas.
