A 21-year-old unemployed from Mankessim in the Central Region has been sentenced by the Begoro District Court to 24 months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone valued at 3.9 million cedis.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector William Kwasi Nkrumah, told the court presided over by Mr Robert Djan, that the complainant, Mr Nicholas Ampim, was a video cameraman and was filming the Begorohene, Osabarima Awuah Kotota II, when he realised that someone had dipped a hand in his pocket.

Chief Inspector Nkrumah said the complainant saw his mobile phone drop on the ground and the accused attempted pushing it over to an accomplice, but he was apprehended.

He said but for the timely intervention of the police the accused would have been lynched.
