Presidential Employers Summit in the making

The Government of Ghana is to collaborate with the International Labour Organisation to organize a "Presidential Employers Summit" by the end of November 2005. The summit's aim would be to influence government policies to be geared towards employment creation.
Addressing the 45th Annual General Meeting of Ghana Employers Association (GEA), Dr Charles Mensa, president of GEA said, the association is pursuing its agenda of promoting information on human resource management and the development of systems and a network of programme to link up with its members.
Speaking on the theme "Building our Enterprises: the Catalyst for Economic Growth", he said the government should create a level playing field to enable the enterprises to become competitive in the global market.
Dr Charles Mensa identified occupational safety and health audit at the workplace, human resource management systems audit, employee opinion survey, small business association needs survey, and organizational development services as the programmes initiated to assist members to have quality and affordable services.
He stated that, the association would collaborate with GIMPA to run programmes to improve industrial relations to enable managers to acquire the tools of managing employer and employee relations.
Ms Joyce Aryee the vice president of the association said, "industries could not be globally competitive if attention is not focused on enterprise development, human resource development, effective business strategy, efficient utilization of material and capital resources and sound industrial relations practices embodied in enterprise development that facilitates job creation."
She said GEA will support the government in its effort in creating a conducive environment which will enable industries develop their full potential in economic development.
