"Fire has wiped us out...We need your help"
Victims of New Year eve`s fire appeal for help

On New Year's eve, as they sat in church welcoming in the New Year, a family was at the same time facing the tragedy of their life time. They were made homeless after their four room storey building was burnt to ashes.
Speaking to ADM in an exclusive interview this week, they complained about the extreme hardship they now find themselves in. "We now live in stores with our children and this is exposing our children to so many diseases" said Mrs. Mary Danful, one of the victims.
"We don't have peace, we don't sleep for fear of being raped or beaten by armed robbers", her son added. On December 31 2005 at Lake Side Clinic in Tesano a storey building accommodating four families and their dependants, was burnt to ashes. Their personal belongings including clothes, electrical appliances, food, cash and other valuables estimated at over 200 million cedis were burnt in the inferno that ensued.
Mrs. Mary Danful, said on that faithful evening, she and the other tenants had gone to church, but unfortunately for them, when they returned around 11:30pm, they met their house on fire.
"About thirty minutes after we called, the Fire Service came, but they could not do anything as the fire had destroyed the whole house making as homeless", she said..
Mrs. Danful called on Ghanaians to come to their aid as they had lost all their worldly possessions. "To be frank, one month after the event, we are facing real hell. We have no shelter and we fear for the future of our children" she said tearfully.
This tragedy underscores the need for education on insurance. Many Ghanaians think insurance applies to only motor vehicles and so leave their other properties uninsured and when tragedy strikes they are wiped out without any safety net to fall on. Any assistance to Mrs. Danful and her family can be channeled through ADM.
