Baba Adamu Armando on form

| Posted: Monday, February 20, 2006

Baba Adamu Armando formerly of Asante Kotoko and Locomotive Moscow is a prolific midfielder cum striker who is on form at the moment. He scored 7 goals in his last 12 matches before the end of the Russian league. Four of the goals were scored in the UEFA Cup where he featured for Krylia Sovetov.

CNN and other sports media adjudged his superb bicycle kick against AZ Alkmaar of Holland in the UEFA Cup the goal of the week. He is certainly one of the players who could help the nation at the world cup in Germany.

The President of Togo Faure Gnassingbe was on the phone several times to have him play for their national side when soccer officials in Ghana wasted time in giving him a major cap with the national team. But he decided to play for his country out of patriotism but Doya kept him on the bench until the last match in the nations cup.

In recent outing in Egypt and Tunisia, Ghana scored only three goals. Two in the tournament and one against Ismaila before the tournament and two of the goals were scored by Armando. Mistakes were made with some unfit players been called up.

If Doya says his selection is based on current performance then Baba Adamu Armando should be in the national team and not be warming the bench.

He could conveniently fit into any of the midfield and attacking positions. He is likely going to play in the French or English premier league this season with the Russian league on recess.
