Child neglect high in Ketu District
- says CHRAJ

GNA | Posted: Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Child neglect cases remain high in the Ketu District, registering more than 60 per cent of all complaints handled by the District Secretariat of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Mr. Gilbert Adzraku, the District Director of the Commission, made the disclosure at the inauguration of the Human Rights Club for pupils of Kekeli Preparatory Basic School at Aflao on Monday.

He said many of those accused of child neglect were parents who lacked employable skills and means of income.

Mr. Adzraku said child maintenance was a constitutional and natural requirement that had to be adhered to and no child should be left unprotected by parents or society.

He said children in the Ketu District, which is close to the Ghana/Togo border, faced greater danger of going wayward as they were attracted to cross border activities such as trading, smuggling and hawking.
