GFA bares teeth at pirates

| Posted: Wednesday, March 22, 2006

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has initiated moves to prevent the illegal sale of Black Stars souvenirs.

The FA has applied to the Registrars General Department to legalize its logo to grant the Association the sole right as it begins its campaign to clamp down on pirates.

The FA expects the regularization process to be completed within four weeks after which the Association will begin the fight against the pirates.

Though Football authorities both at club level and the national level have been criticized in the past for not doing enough to clamp down on the illegal sale of souvenirs, the GFA says it intends to act tough now.

The FA in recent times has come under huge criticism from various quarters which argue that, the Federation had done little to oust the practice of pirates using it's logos for their personal gains. The President of the Association, Kwesi Nyantakyie, told the Press that "we have applied for the registration of our logo to empower legally to prosecute the cheats".
